ENERGY STAR is a government-backed program administered by the EPA and the Department of Energy. The ENERGY STAR emblem signifies that the item is energy efficient, designed to help you save money while reducing emissions and thus protecting our environment.

Founded in 1992, ENERGY STAR continues to build on its success, each year surpassing the preceding one. In 2005, the EPA estimates that ENERGY STAR saved Americans $12 billion in utility bills and helped prevent tons of greenhouse gas emissions from entering the atmosphere, equivalent to those produced by 23 million vehicles annually. In 2006, utility savings were estimated to be $14 billion, with reduced gas emissions equivalent to 25 million vehicles. In 2007, the savings rose again, to $16 billion, eliminating emissions equal to 27 million cars.
